Electronic Monitoring Bracelet Tampering Fugitive, No Escape in Incheon... Real-Time Tracking with 16,000 CCTV Cameras
Construction of Smart City Integrated Platform, Ministry of Justice, Police, and Fire Department Share CCTV
[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] Recently, there has been a social issue where sex offenders wearing electronic anklets damage the devices and flee, committing further crimes. In Incheon, however, it has become possible to quickly apprehend suspects through real-time tracking when such incidents occur.
On the 3rd, Incheon City announced that it has completed the Smart City Integrated Platform project and started sharing real-time footage from approximately 16,000 CCTVs across Incheon with the police, fire department, and Ministry of Justice (Location Tracking Control Center).
The Smart City Integrated Platform is a project aimed at creating an intelligent smart city and a 365-day safe and secure city by organically linking various information systems such as safety, traffic, and environment to share information and achieve better results.
Incheon City was selected for a Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport public contest project and, in addition to receiving 600 million KRW in national funding, invested an additional 1.05 billion KRW to expand the shared CCTV coverage throughout the city.
With the city’s budget support, 10 districts and counties have completed their subscription to the 'Smart City Safety Network,' enabling the use of the Smart City Integrated Platform to connect CCTV systems across Incheon with those of the police, fire department, and Ministry of Justice.
Accordingly, when emergencies such as violent crimes or fires occur, the police, fire department, and Ministry of Justice can immediately assess the situation on-site by using CCTV footage installed throughout Incheon, enabling prompt response.
In particular, if an electronic anklet wearer damages the device or shows abnormal signs, the Ministry of Justice Location Tracking Control Center can use nearby CCTV footage provided by Incheon City to track the individual’s movements in real time and take necessary measures swiftly.
