Apple Watch Screen Enlarged to '41·45mm'... Collaboration with Hermes and Nike
Bloomberg Mark Gurman Report
[Asia Economy Reporter Minyoung Cha] It is anticipated that the screen of the new Apple Watch 7 series, set to be unveiled this month in '41mm and 45mm' sizes, will be larger than its predecessor. This will be the second time in Apple Watch history that the screen size has increased, the first being with the Watch 4 released in 2018.
Mark Gurman of Bloomberg stated on the 3rd (local time), "Apple's next-generation smartwatch will break limits in a key area: the amount of information users can see at once."
The Apple Watch 7 screen is expected to be larger than the current 40mm and 44mm versions, measuring 41mm and 45mm respectively. This measurement is based on the case height, with the diagonal screen sizes being 1.78 inches and 1.9 inches respectively.
For the new 45mm model, the resolution will be 396 x 484, significantly improved from the previous model's 368 x 448. Mark Gurman explained, "This means the device will have about 16% more pixels," adding, "It implies that more so-called 'complications,' which represent the amount of information displayed on the watch, can be shown."
With the larger display, Apple has also started developing new Apple modes to utilize this feature. Mark Gurman expects some of these to be announced at the new model's launch. One example is the 'Modular Max' mode, which displays complications such as external temperature and quick access to applications alongside a digital clock on a single screen. This is an upgraded version of the current 'Infograph Modular.'
World time modes like 'Atlas' and 'World Timer' will also be upgraded. Users will be able to view 24 time zones simultaneously. The outer dial shows the time zones, while the inner dial displays the time at the corresponding location. Both digital and analog formats are supported.
Collaborations are underway with global luxury brand 'Herm?s' and sports brand 'Nike.' In the Herm?s mode, the numbers change every hour, whereas in the Nike face, the numbers move in response to the wearer’s movements.
However, an Apple spokesperson declined to comment officially on these matters.
