Postpartum Care Helper Transferred to Prosecution for Habitual Abuse of 88-Day-Old Baby
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo Byung-don] A postpartum caregiver accused of abusing an 88-day-old baby has been handed over to the prosecution.
The Women's and Juvenile Investigation Unit of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency announced on the 2nd that they had sent Ms. A, a postpartum caregiver in her 60s accused of violating the Child Welfare Act (child abuse), to the prosecution on the 23rd of last month.
According to the police, Ms. A is suspected of repeatedly abusing a baby about three months old by forcefully hitting the baby's back or roughly placing the baby onto sofa cushions while working as a postpartum caregiver at a home in Gwanak-gu from May to June.

The baby's parents became aware of the abuse through closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage installed inside the house and reported it to the Gwanak Police Station in Seoul on June 9. Following the guideline that cases of child abuse involving children under 13 are investigated by a dedicated team at the provincial police agency, the case was transferred to the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency the next day.
