Taiwan Establishes Reserve Forces Mobilization Organization to Prepare for Attack by Chinese Military
[Asia Economy Reporter Yujin Cho] The Taiwanese government is establishing a dedicated reserve mobilization organization in response to China's military provocations.
According to local media on the 2nd, the Taiwanese Executive Yuan recently passed the "Ministry of National Defense Civil Defense Mobilization Organization Act," which is responsible for reserve mobilization duties during wartime situations.
The mobilization office, officially launching on January 1 next year, will be headed by a senior officer and will handle planning of troop mobilization policies for the Taiwanese military, as well as management of reserves and military supplies.
This aims to strengthen reserve forces to efficiently support military operations. To this end, the Taiwanese Ministry of National Defense has requested a budget of 258.42 million New Taiwan dollars (approximately 10.79 billion Korean won) from the Legislative Yuan (parliament).
Additionally, a budget of 470,000 New Taiwan dollars has been requested to dispatch an inspection team to the United States to enhance military exchanges with the U.S.
The establishment of this dedicated reserve mobilization organization is part of the Taiwanese authorities' efforts to strengthen defense readiness across all regions in response to repeated military provocations by the Chinese military.
President Tsai Ing-wen stated at her second-term inauguration ceremony in May last year that she would accelerate the development of asymmetric capabilities and strengthen the wartime mobilization capacity of the reserves in the face of the ongoing military threats from China.
