BNK Economic Research Institute "Must Actively Build Hydrogen Economy Ecosystem"
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyo-jin] BNK Economic Research Institute, affiliated with BNK Financial Group, suggested on the 2nd in its research report titled "The Future of the Hydrogen Economy and Response Tasks for the Southeastern Region" that "the transition from a carbon economy to a hydrogen economy is an inevitable wave, so active efforts must be made to establish an ecosystem for the hydrogen economy to become a new growth engine for the region."
The institute also pointed out that "the will and efforts of the government, local governments, and related organizations are important for consistent policy implementation regarding the hydrogen economy," and emphasized that "since the creation of the hydrogen economy value chain, encompassing production, storage, transportation, and utilization, requires a high level of technological innovation, measures must be taken to establish an industry-academia-research cooperation system."
The institute predicted that the hydrogen economy will completely change the future vision of the nation, including individuals' lives, social infrastructure, and economic structure. It also foresaw that many individuals will use hydrogen passenger cars and home fuel cells in daily life, and the transportation environment will transform around clean infrastructure such as hydrogen taxis, hydrogen buses, and hydrogen trucks.
Along with this, it projected that the hydrogen economy will contribute to national economic development through direct and indirect effects such as energy self-sufficiency and supply stabilization, greenhouse gas reduction, and securing new growth engines.
The institute analyzed that "especially, a quantum leap is expected in the manufacturing industry of the Southeastern region, which is the production hub for hydrogen mobility," and that "technological innovations in the production of hydrogen cars, hydrogen ships, hydrogen trains, hydrogen drones, and hydrogen excavators will become new growth engines for regional key industries such as automobiles, shipbuilding, and machinery."
Furthermore, the institute advised that "since 4 out of the 11 hydrogen-specialized companies selected by the government this year are located in the Southeastern region, local governments should expand incentives, subsidies, and manpower support so that more companies in the Southeastern region can be selected as hydrogen-specialized companies and follow growth paths."
