Sweden, EU's Top Low-Carbon Country, Participates as Main Host at Hydrogen Mobility+ Show for the First Time
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyewon] Sweden will participate as the guest of honor at the '2021 Hydrogen Mobility+ Show,' held for four days starting from the 8th at KINTEX in Goyang-si, Gyeonggi-do.
The Swedish Trade Representative Office in Korea announced on the 2nd that Korea and Sweden plan to discuss various issues across the hydrogen industry, including manufacturing sectors such as steel and automobiles utilizing hydrogen energy, as well as the establishment of hydrogen refueling infrastructure through this exhibition. This is the first time the Hydrogen Mobility+ Show Organizing Committee has invited a guest of honor country, and that country is Sweden.
The guest of honor is a concept widely used in large-scale international exhibitions, where a country most suitable for the event's purpose is selected to prepare and operate special events. The organizing committee explained that despite the global spread of COVID-19, many overseas countries are participating in the Hydrogen Mobility+ Show, which led to the introduction of the guest of honor system.
Anders Hector, Science and Innovation Counselor at the Swedish Embassy in Korea, said, "The whole world is paying attention to the hydrogen economy activation roadmap led by the Korean government, Hyundai Motor Company's hydrogen electric vehicles, which rank first in global sales, and POSCO Group's hydrogen business strategies," adding, "The Swedish government is also setting a hydrogen industry roadmap and striving to apply it across various industrial sectors."
These efforts by the Swedish government are yielding results. According to Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union (EU), Sweden's annual per capita carbon emissions are 5.2 tons, the lowest in the EU. Additionally, Sweden's steel company SSAB announced on the 18th that it supplied Volvo Cars with steel raw materials produced using hydrogen energy without using any fossil fuels. This is the world's first production of steel without any fossil fuel usage.
During the event, Sweden will closely collaborate with the organizing committee in various ways, including exhibiting products and technologies of its domestic companies and participating in the International Hydrogen Conference. Dr. Guese Mete, representing Sweden at the Hydrogen Mobility+ Show International Hydrogen Conference, is expected to deliver a keynote speech focusing on policies and financing in the industrial sector, discussing ways to achieve the goals of the Paris Agreement and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).
The Sweden Pavilion at the Hydrogen Mobility+ Show will include companies in the hydrogen refueling infrastructure sector such as the Swedish Trade and Investment Representative Office in Korea, CEJN, ABB, Impact Coatings, and Kraftpowercon. A representative from the organizing committee emphasized, "Swedish companies have secured core technologies in green hydrogen production processes, refueling infrastructure, and fuel cells," adding, "These companies are highly evaluated across innovation, environment, safety, quality, and performance necessary for the entire hydrogen industry."
This year, more than 150 domestic and international companies from 12 countries worldwide are participating in the Hydrogen Mobility+ Show.
