Jeonju City Council Member Seo Yoon-geun Urges Improvement of Working Conditions for Workers at Welfare Facilities for the Disabled
[Jeonju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Han-ho] Seo Yoon-geun, a member of the Jeonju City Council (Uwa 1·2-dong, Hoseong-dong), emphasized the need for support for workers at welfare facilities for the disabled in the Jeonju area.
On the 1st, during the 5-minute free speech at the 1st plenary session of the 384th extraordinary meeting, Councilor Seo pointed out, “According to the nationwide municipal workforce support status by city and province from the Korea Disabled Daycare Association, Jeonbuk and Jeonju City rank among the lowest in municipal workforce support nationwide,” adding, “In this situation, social welfare workers at disabled daycare facilities must remain at the permanent ‘General Employee Level 3’ unless they become facility directors.”
He continued, “The position allowance, substitute personnel, and overtime pay presented in the Ministry of Health and Welfare’s wage support standards exist only as distant stories in Jeonju.”
Councilor Seo stated, “In the case of Yongin City, they have introduced a paid sabbatical leave system for long-term employees beyond treatment improvement costs such as overtime pay, and Gyeonggi Province has enacted and implemented related support ordinances,” adding, “Jeonju City should also establish mid- to long-term plans to create a ‘sustainable welfare city Jeonju’ that satisfies both users and workers.”
