COVID-19 New Cases Reach 2,000s After One Week... Vaccination Completion Rate Surpasses 30% (Update)
[Asia Economy Reporter Seo So-jung] The number of new COVID-19 cases in South Korea rose again to the 2,000 range, reaching 2,025 on the 1st. This is the first time in a week since the 2,154 cases recorded on the 25th of last month.
The Central Disease Control Headquarters (CDCH) announced that as of midnight on the 1st, there were 2,025 new domestic COVID-19 cases, bringing the total to 253,445. Of these, 1,992 were domestic transmissions and 33 were imported cases.
By region, Seoul reported 662 cases, Gyeonggi 630, and Incheon 123, totaling 1,415 cases (71.0%) in the metropolitan area. The proportion of cases in the metropolitan area has exceeded 70% for two consecutive days.
Non-metropolitan areas reported a total of 577 cases (29.0%), including Chungnam 86, Busan and Ulsan 68 each, Daegu 54, Chungbuk 49, Gyeongnam 48, Gyeongbuk 44, Gangwon 36, Gwangju 35, Daejeon 30, Jeonbuk 23, Jeonnam 17, Sejong 10, and Jeju 9.
Among the 33 imported cases, 5 were detected during quarantine, and the remaining 28 were confirmed in the community. Thirteen were Korean nationals and 20 were foreigners. Twenty-one cases were confirmed from Asian countries excluding China.
The death toll increased by 7 from the previous day, totaling 2,292, with a fatality rate of 0.9%. The number of critically ill patients is 399.
The number of newly released from isolation increased by 2,618, bringing the total to 224,319.
The number of suspected cases tested was 57,429, and 96,266 tests were conducted at temporary screening clinics set up in the metropolitan area, confirming 427 positive cases. In non-metropolitan temporary screening clinics, 14,454 tests were conducted, identifying 85 positive cases. The total number of tests conducted was 168,149.
According to the COVID-19 Vaccination Response Promotion Team, 246,806 people received their first dose yesterday, bringing the total number of first-dose recipients to 29,279,112. The vaccination rate for the first dose is 57% of the population.
For the second dose, 529,356 people were newly vaccinated, with a total of 15,749,376 having completed the vaccination. The completion rate for the second dose is 30.7% of the population.
Since the 31st of last month through the 1st, 8,699 new cases of suspected adverse reactions following COVID-19 vaccination were reported, bringing the cumulative total to 180,677.

Among the new cases, there were 26 suspected anaphylaxis cases, 238 major adverse reactions including neurological symptoms, and 13 death cases reported.
