Digital platform company KT announced on the 1st that it will join the education welfare project "Seoul Run," hosted by the Seoul Metropolitan Government. It will also support one-on-one mentoring services based on the non-face-to-face education platform "KT Ransen Edu."
Last year, KT actively collaborated with leading domestic education companies such as Digital Daesung, as well as local governments including the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education, providing the non-face-to-face education platform KT Ransen Edu to both public and private education sectors.
Seoul Run is an education support project launched on the 27th of last month by the Seoul Metropolitan Government to create an education environment without discrimination, targeting vulnerable groups. The target beneficiaries are elementary, middle, and high school students from households with middle income below 50%, including basic livelihood security recipients and near-poverty groups. The project starts with 110,000 students this year and aims to establish a lifelong learning infrastructure for all Seoul citizens by 2023.
In this project, KT collaborates with eight leading domestic education content providers including Digital Daesung, Megastudy, Subakssi (Visang), Ice Cream Home Run, Eduwill, Eli High, Mbest, and Etoos to provide high-quality learning content free of charge and unlimited access to youth until February next year. It also supports the online learning coaching service "Seoul Run Mentoring" program.
The Seoul Run Mentoring program will be conducted sequentially from September for selected applicants among Seoul Run participants. To this end, Seoul Metropolitan Government and KT will recruit a total of 500 university student mentors and match the optimal mentors and mentees. One mentor will provide one-on-one non-face-to-face mentoring to four youth mentees for a total of eight weeks through KT Ransen Edu.
Kim Hoon-bae, Executive Vice President of KT Media Platform Business Division, said, "KT is expanding non-face-to-face education projects nationwide based on solid cooperation with the government and education specialized companies to resolve the deepening education gap after COVID-19. We will continue to lead comprehensive digital innovation across all education sectors, including public and private education, so that everyone can receive quality education in an environment without discrimination."
Meanwhile, the Seoul Run mentor group, which will support closing the learning gap among youth through Seoul Run Mentoring, continues to recruit members. Following the first selection recruited through recommendations from universities located in Seoul, the second selection will be conducted through document screening and non-face-to-face interviews until September 24. Applicants are university (graduate) students nationwide, including those on leave of absence. Preference will be given to those with experience in youth learning guidance, mentoring experience such as Seoul Donghaeng, or holders of teaching certificates.
