[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Ju Cheol-in] Former Democratic Party leader and presidential candidate Lee Nak-yeon visited the grave of former President Roh Moo-hyun on the 31st, the day the presidential race began, to pay his respects. It was about three months since the 12th anniversary memorial service for former President Roh's passing.
On that day, Lee explained the purpose of his visit, saying, "I first came to see President Roh to report that the primary has started and to express my determination to participate in the primary."
After laying flowers, he moved to the large flat rock and knelt for about 10 seconds at the grave site. Camp officials, including spokesperson Bae Jae-jung and chief of staff Oh Young-hwan from the Pil-yeon camp, accompanied him.
Lee said, "I promised the President that our generation will accomplish the tasks of 'a world where people live' and 'balanced development.'"
He added, "I recalled working with him during the 16th presidential election and reflected on the words he gave us at that time, reaffirming what today's leaders must do."
Earlier, in the guestbook, he wrote, "We will take on the tasks of a world where people live and balanced development left by the President. Please grant us wisdom and courage. 2021.8.31. Bulscho (不肖) Lee Nak-yeon."
Regarding why he wrote 'Bulscho' instead of a title, he explained, "'Scho (肖)' means 'to resemble,' so it means 'I do not resemble the President,' and paradoxically, it also means 'I want to resemble him.'"
Regarding Gyeonggi Governor Lee Jae-myung's so-called 'free legal defense,' Lee said, "I have nothing special to say," and reiterated, "Today is not an appropriate occasion to continue disputes over current issues."
When asked about the primary strategy that started that day, he replied, "To do my best."
Lee greeted hundreds of supporters gathered on-site and took commemorative photos.
