President Moon Welcomes Decision to Allow Time for Maturation of Media Arbitration Act in National Assembly (Comprehensive)
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] Regarding the postponement of the plenary session on the amendment to the Media Arbitration Act to the 27th of next month, President Moon Jae-in stated, "I welcome the decision to take time for maturation."
Park Kyung-mi, the Blue House spokesperson, conveyed on the 31st during a briefing that President Moon made this remark concerning the formation of a consultative body for the Media Arbitration Act.
President Moon emphasized, "Freedom of the press is a pillar of democracy and, along with the public's right to know, must be specially protected. Therefore, related laws and systems must be thoroughly reviewed to prevent any risk of abuse."
At the same time, he pointed out, "On the other hand, protecting victims from malicious false reports and fake news is also very important. We must promptly correct erroneous reports and ensure complete recovery from mental, material, and social damages."
