[Asia Economy Reporter Yoon Seul-gi] Cho Soo-jin, Supreme Council Member of the People Power Party, raised her voice in criticism against the Democratic Party of Korea's forcible passage of the Act on the Mediation and Relief of Damage in the Press (Press Arbitration Act), stating, "The patchwork evil law should only be scrapped."
On the 31st, Cho posted on her Facebook, calling the Press Arbitration Act the "Press Gag Law," and said, "Since the Press Gag Law is not subject to negotiation, the floor leadership should declare 'negotiation breakdown.'"
Regarding the Press Arbitration Act, Cho claimed, "The ruling party's intention is a highly malicious and blatant evil law," and added, "It is intended to suppress critical reporting against the ruling power ahead of the presidential election and is designed with consideration for the post-President Moon Jae-in era."
Cho also said, "It completely contradicts our constitutional values and the fundamental spirit of democracy," and stated, "Fixing a few provisions in this poisonous bill will not remove the poison."
She emphasized, "We should declare 'negotiation breakdown' and let the Democratic Party of Korea do as they please," adding, "The Democratic Party of Korea has done whatever they wanted with the power of numbers. Since this is not about budgets or policies like disaster relief funds or supplementary budgets, there is no need to consider a so-called Plan B."
Cho also criticized President Moon Jae-in, saying, "President Moon Jae-in, who presided over the Blue House senior secretaries and aides meeting after three weeks, remained silent as expected," and added, "During President Roh Moo-hyun's 'nailing down the coffin' incident, Moon, as Chief of Staff, watched without any opposition."
