Yoo Seung-min: "Not the time for Moon administration's 'rescue show'... Need to rescue indirectly employed Afghans"
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoon Seul-gi] Yoo Seung-min, a former lawmaker and presidential pre-candidate of the People Power Party, raised his voice demanding the rescue of about 60 Afghans who were indirectly employed by our government in Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan (Afgan).
On the 29th, Yoo posted on his Facebook under the title "Afghans Not Rescued by K-Miracle," criticizing the Moon Jae-in administration for not rescuing the indirectly employed Afghans, saying, "This is not the time for the Moon Jae-in government to put on a 'rescue show.' Will they just keep putting on a 'show' until the end of their term?"
He said, "The Blue House promoted it as 'K-Miracle' when 76 Afghans who helped Korea and their families, totaling 390 people, set foot on our land," adding, "But the news is that about 60 Afghans who worked with us in Kabul, Afghanistan, were left behind."
Yoo continued, "The Afghans who recently entered the country were those 'directly employed' by our government in Bagram and their families, but those left in Kabul are said to have been 'indirectly employed' by the Korean government," adding, "How is this any different from discriminating between workers belonging to the primary contractor and those belonging to subcontractors? The United States, Canada, and the European Union considered all indirectly employed personnel as rescue targets and carried out rescue operations," he pointed out.
Yoo said, "The Taliban has declared that they will search for and capture everyone who worked for foreign governments," and added, "In fact, these (indirectly employed Afghans left locally) had the opportunity to escape to neighboring Pakistan on their own, but while trusting the Korean embassy's words to 'wait,' the embassy withdrew, and now they are isolated by airport bombings and border closures, facing life-threatening danger from the Taliban."
