US Department of Defense Targets IS-K Responsible for Kabul Terror Attack in Airstrike... Two Senior Officials Killed, One Injured
[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunwoo Lee] The U.S. Department of Defense announced that it conducted an airstrike against the Islamic State (IS) affiliate in Afghanistan, IS Khorasan (IS-K), which claimed responsibility for the bomb attack at Kabul Airport, killing two high-ranking members.
On the 28th (local time), General Hank Taylor, U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff spokesperson, stated at a Department of Defense briefing, "We carried out a drone targeted airstrike against IS-K, identified as the perpetrator of the Kabul Airport attack, in Nangarhar Province in eastern Afghanistan," adding, "Two high-ranking IS-K members were killed and one was injured in this airstrike." Earlier, major foreign media reported that one IS-K operative was killed in the strike.
This U.S. military airstrike came shortly after President Joe Biden vowed military retaliation immediately following the terror attack. There is also speculation that additional airstrike operations may follow.

General Taylor further stated, "So far, 5,400 U.S. citizens have been evacuated from Afghanistan," adding, "There were 6,000 U.S. citizens in Afghanistan, and about 600 remain." It is also reported that U.S. troops conducting evacuation operations at Kabul Airport have begun withdrawing.
