One COVID-19 Patient in Their 30s Died Yesterday... "Underlying Conditions Present"
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Chun-han] Amid the ongoing fourth wave of COVID-19, it has been reported that a person in their 30s died one day after testing positive.
According to the Central Disease Control Headquarters (CDCH) on the 28th, a total of 11 COVID-19 confirmed deaths were reported the previous day. Among them, four were aged 80 or older, three were in their 60s, two were in their 50s, and one each in their 70s and 30s.
The CDCH explained regarding the death of the person in their 30s, "The individual tested positive on the 26th and died on the 27th while receiving inpatient treatment. The infection route is currently under investigation, and the person had underlying health conditions."
As of midnight on the same day, out of the total 2,276 cumulative deaths in the country, 20 deaths were among people in their 20s and 30s. Among these, 12 were in their 30s (0.53%) and 8 were in their 20s (0.35%), with fatality rates of 0.03% and 0.02%, respectively, which are significantly lower than the average fatality rate of 0.92%.
Although the number of deaths among people in their 20s and 30s is lower compared to other age groups, there has been a slight increase recently. In particular, among those in their 20s, one and two deaths were reported on the 15th and 21st, respectively. It is estimated that the increase in deaths is centered on high-risk groups with underlying conditions as the number of confirmed cases among young and middle-aged adults has surged significantly during the fourth wave.
According to the CDCH, as of midnight on the 26th, out of 243,317 cumulative confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country, 119,509 (49.1%) were young and middle-aged adults aged 20 to 49. Among them, those in their 20s accounted for the largest proportion at 18.2%, followed by those in their 50s at 17.5%, 40s at 15.9%, 30s at 15.0%, and 60s at 12.0%.

However, with the increase in vaccination rates, the fatality rate is gradually decreasing.
