Timon Chuseok Survey Results... 3 out of 4 People "Will Rest at Home with Family"
COVID-19 Situation 'Chuseok Special Exhibition' Held
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Cheol-hyun] TMON announced on the 26th that the trend of holidays has changed due to the spread of the COVID-19 Delta variant, as three out of four respondents said they would "rest at home with family" during the Chuseok holiday period in a survey of about 600 customers regarding Chuseok.
In this survey conducted over a week from the 19th targeting about 600 TMON customers, only 4% answered that they would travel during the holiday, showing an awareness of the seriousness of the COVID-19 situation and a tendency to refrain from traveling. The main reason cited by 78% of respondents was the "spread of the Delta variant."
The trend toward non-face-to-face interactions and nuclear family units was also prominent. The answer "ordering Chuseok gifts from online malls such as TMON or using the gift function" was the highest at 31%. When asked about holiday plans, more than half (53%) said they would "spend Chuseok quietly with immediate family," while only 7% said they would spend the holiday with family and relatives as before.
Many also believed that the holiday culture itself would change due to COVID-19. Forty-eight percent of respondents said it would "change to gatherings only with immediate family." Additionally, 25% thought it would "become a period of rest for individuals and families." Only 13% answered that there would be "no change." In fact, 47% said they would not go to their hometown, nearly half, and 61% expressed that while they understood those who go for the holiday, they hoped they would refrain from doing so.
