Colombian President "Met with Lotte, CJ, SK Bio Officials" (Comprehensive)
President Moon's 'Economic Cooperation' Message: Colombian President Urges "More Interest in Colombia's 5G Communication Project"
[Asia Economy Reporter Ryu Jeong-min] Iv?n Duque M?rquez, President of Colombia, stated on the 25th during the Korea-Colombia summit held at the Blue House with President Moon Jae-in, "Yesterday, I met with representatives from Lotte Group, and this morning with CJ and SK Bio. I was able to confirm that all of them consider Colombia an excellent investment destination."
President Duque said, "We will seek many opportunities for cooperation so that Korea's exports to Colombia increase and investments can be made mutually," adding, "I also request President Moon to encourage Korean companies to take more interest in Colombia's 5G telecommunications projects. Fields like advanced technologies such as 5G are areas where both countries can create win-win cooperation."
President Duque made these remarks as President Moon emphasized enhancing economic cooperation between the two countries. This summit attracted attention as the first face-to-face summit with a Latin American country since COVID-19. President Moon invited President Duque as a state guest, and Colombia accepted, leading to the summit at the Blue House.
This summit also carried the significance of supporting Korean companies to enter large-scale projects promoted by the Colombian government. In particular, President Moon emphasized Colombia as the only Latin American country that participated in the Korean War, highlighting the special relationship between the two countries.
President Moon said, "Since we attended the P4G summit together, it feels like meeting an old friend," and added, "Colombia is the only Latin American country that participated in the Korean War. The Colombian infantry battalion arrived at Busan Port 70 years ago, played active roles in several important battles, and made noble sacrifices."
President Moon stated, "Under President Duque's leadership, Colombia is growing the fastest in Latin America. The 'Orange Economy' and the 'Commitment to Colombia' policies are rapidly transforming Colombia, and last year, Colombia became an OECD member, contributing to global economic growth beyond Latin America."
President Moon expressed, "I hope your state visit and today's summit will serve as an opportunity to expand practical cooperation in various fields and move forward on the path of shared prosperity."
President Duque said, "We need to utilize the FTA more in the future. Many companies are included in my delegation for this visit. Currently, Colombia exports about 500,000 bags of coffee annually to Korea as one example. Our goal is to increase this coffee export volume to 1 million bags per year."
President Duque added, "Through this, more opportunities will be provided to rural areas and farmers in Colombia. Currently, Colombia exports tropical fruits such as Hass avocados to Korea, but we hope to enter the meat market in the future. We also hope that more Koreans will invest in Colombia, contributing to the enhancement of trade relations between the two countries."
Meanwhile, President Moon and President Duque adopted a joint declaration reflecting the future-oriented development of bilateral relations. President Moon awarded the Mugunghwa Medal to President Duque, and President Duque awarded the Boyac? Medal to President Moon.
President Moon expressed gratitude, saying, "It is a great honor to receive the highest Bolivar Medal, the hero of South American independence."
