Vice Minister Jo Kyung-sik of the Ministry of Science and ICT Visits Metaverse Company That Created Virtual Human 'Rozy'
Discussion on Government Support Measures for the Development Direction and Promotion of the Metaverse Industry
[Asia Economy Reporter Cha Min-young] Cho Kyung-sik, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Science and ICT, visited Locus, an extended reality (XR) content company that created the virtual human "Rozy," known as the "eternal 22-year-old," to discuss the direction of the metaverse industry.
On the morning of the 25th, Vice Minister Cho visited Locus headquarters near Dosan-daero in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, to hear about the company's status and on-site difficulties. He examined virtual human-related technologies that will coexist with humans in the metaverse world and discussed government support plans to foster the related industry.
He said, "I hope our companies and young creators will lead the metaverse era through continuous challenges and innovation based on excellent technology and creativity," adding, "The government will also actively support private sector innovation to nurture the metaverse as a future hyper-connected new industry."
Locus is a metaverse content company based on computer graphics (CG) and visual effects (VFX) technology that developed Korea's first virtual influencer Rozy together with its subsidiary Sidus Studio X. Rozy, created with three-dimensional CG technology, is an influencer with over 50,000 followers and is active as an advertising model in various domestic fields such as finance, automobiles, and fashion.
Locus also won the Presidential Award in the animation category at the 2019 Korea Content Awards for the computer graphic animation "Red Shoes." It also achieved the distinction of being the first Korean work selected as a primary candidate in the Best Animated Feature category at the American Academy Awards.

Meanwhile, Vice Minister Cho also checked the progress of the Ministry of Science and ICT's digital new deal project, the "Extended Reality (XR) Flagship Project." Currently, Locus is developing an XR-based education and training system for police complex terrorism response. DKI Technologies is developing an XR-based severe trauma treatment training system.
