National Fire Agency Research Institute and KEPCO KDN Sign Joint Research Agreement on 'AI Personnel Counting System'
Joint Research on Personnel Counting System for Internal Building Structures
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The National Fire Agency's National Fire Research Institute announced on the 25th that it signed a business agreement with KEPCO KDN on the 24th to jointly research an 'AI-based personnel counting system' to support life-saving activities at fire scenes.
The AI-based personnel counting system currently being developed by KEPCO KDN is a system that uses object recognition technology to monitor in real time the number of people staying inside facilities.
Until now, firefighters dispatched to building fire scenes have roughly identified the number of occupants inside the building through statements from building owners and related parties, as well as fire activity information cards. However, there have been limitations in accurately identifying the locations and exact number of people inside the building, requiring many rescue personnel and time for internal life searches.
Through this agreement, by applying and improving the characteristics of indoor smoke and evacuees in fire buildings, it is expected to identify the locations and number of people inside the building, enabling rapid life-saving operations.
