[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Seohyun] Former Dongyang University professor Jin Joong-kwon strongly urged severe punishment for the People Power Party lawmakers accused of real estate speculation. Former Professor Jin stated, "Since Representative Lee has a legitimate reason, if he strictly handles this issue, I will support him," adding, "There will be significant resistance within the party, but (Representative Lee) must firmly suppress that opposition."
On the 23rd, appearing on CBS Radio's 'One Match,' former Professor Jin said, "(The real estate speculation allegations) do not seem to be a major variable in the presidential election," and emphasized, "Many cases will likely be cleared in police and prosecution investigations, and we need to observe further to see how many people actually engaged in speculation."
Earlier on the 23rd, the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission (ACRC) announced that among the People Power Party lawmakers, 12 were found to have potential violations of laws during real estate transactions involving themselves or their families. The ACRC confirmed suspicions of legal violations in real estate transactions involving 12 People Power Party lawmakers and 1 Open Democratic Party lawmaker, either personally or through their families.
Kim Seong-hoe, spokesperson for the Open Democratic Party, who also appeared on the program, said, "Representative Lee (Jun-seok) will take decisive action with a heavy heart," adding, "(Representative Lee's) leadership was shaken due to clashes with presidential candidates, but this could be an opportunity to return to square one."
