[Asia Economy Reporter Yoon Seul-gi] Kim Jae-won, Supreme Council Member of the People Power Party, announced today that the party will hold a Supreme Council meeting to approve former Prime Minister Jeong Hong-won as the Election Commission Chairperson.
Kim said on the morning of the 23rd on YTN Radio's 'Hwang Bo-seon's Start of the Morning,' "Lee Jun-seok called me last night to ask if I would agree to appoint former Prime Minister Jeong Hong-won, and I said I agreed."
Regarding former Prime Minister Jeong, Kim said, "I am in agreement, and I don't think there will be many who strongly oppose his appointment. If a senior figure in our party manages the election fairly, I believe all the previous confusion will be resolved, and it will be a good opportunity for a fresh start."
He continued, "We need to actively support the smooth progress of the primary process, and if we proceed carefully to avoid misunderstandings between each other, I think there will be no major problems. Lee Jun-seok also seems to be very cautious now to avoid causing misunderstandings himself," he added.
Regarding Min Young-sam, the People Power Party's National Integration Special Advisor from Yoon Seok-youl's presidential pre-candidate camp, and his remarks about Lee Jun-seok's resignation, Kim said, "The camp of the leading candidate in the polls must be especially careful with their words and actions. The conflict between the party leader and a prominent presidential candidate is something unprecedented, and in such a situation, camp members should be even more cautious." He added, "When I saw reports that Special Advisor Min Young-sam posted such comments, I felt sorry and hoped for prompt action, which fortunately was taken immediately."
