486 Selected in 25 Subjects, Decrease Across All Fields
French and German Teachers Selected for the First Time Since 2000
[Asia Economy Reporter Han Jinju] The Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education has announced in advance that it will select 486 public middle school teachers and special (middle school) teachers, health teachers, nutrition teachers, librarians, and professional counselors next year. This is 224 fewer than the number of recruits this year.
On the 22nd, the Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education pre-announced that it will select ▲365 middle school subject teachers ▲40 special (middle school) teachers ▲81 non-subject teachers, totaling 486, in the 2022 academic year appointment candidate selection competitive exam.
The number of recruits by field has decreased compared to 2021. The recruitment quota will be finalized reflecting the Ministry of Education's provisional quota allocation, teacher retirement and honorary retirement, and reductions in the number of students and classes.
For middle and high school teachers, the middle school subject teachers will select 365, a decrease of 23 from last year. Special (middle school) teachers will decrease by 32 to 40, health teachers will decrease by 50 to 35, nutrition teachers will decrease by 31 to 23, professional counselors will decrease by 19 to 71, and librarians will decrease by 17 to 4.
The Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education will select French and German teachers for the first time since 2000 in next year's appointment exam. This is aimed at stably operating the high school credit system. Two French teachers and one German teacher will be selected, recruiting without distinction for persons with disabilities.

This preliminary announcement provides a rough guide to the planned fields and numbers of recruits, and the final recruitment fields, numbers, and detailed exam information will be announced through the exam implementation plan notice on October 15. The first written exam is scheduled to be held on November 27.
