Prosecution Files Appeal Against Court's Bail Approval for Kim Bong-hyun
[Asia Economy Reporter Song Seung-yoon] The prosecution has filed an appeal with the court against the decision to grant bail to Kim Bong-hyun, former chairman of Star Mobility, who has been identified as a key figure in the Lime Asset Management scandal.
According to the court on the 20th, the Seoul Southern District Prosecutors' Office submitted the appeal on the 23rd of last month to the trial court that approved Kim's bail. It is known that the prosecution conveyed to the court that Kim denies most of the charges and that there is a risk of flight, thus requiring a trial in detention.
The Criminal Division 13 of the Seoul Southern District Court (Presiding Judge Lee Sang-joo) ruled on the 20th of last month to grant Kim's bail request, stating, "Since the number of witnesses requested reaches several dozen, a considerable period is required for the trial, and the defendant's right to defense must be guaranteed." Accordingly, Kim was released from the Seoul Southern Detention Center the following day.
