At a press conference held at the Daegu City Party Office that day, in response to a reporter's question about rumors that "Yoon's side has offered him the party leader position," Won dismissed it as "nonsense" and responded as above.
Won emphasized, "Through future criticism and verification, I will strongly scrutinize whether Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-yeol's philosophy, preparedness, and governing capability are adequate."
He then questioned, "Why should the people endure an uneasy experiment by entrusting the presidency to an unprepared novice?"
Regarding the recent recorded conflict with Party Leader Lee Jun-seok, he dismissed it by saying, "I consider that Leader Lee has admitted his mistake, and I will no longer engage in a truth dispute." He added, "The essence of the clash with Leader Lee was my desperate sense of crisis to ensure a fair primary."
Won also criticized the so-called 'Hwang Kyo-ik personnel controversy' involving ruling party candidate Gyeonggi Governor Lee Jae-myung.
Won stated, "Just as former Minister Cho Kuk used his position to get his daughter admitted, Lee is abusing his gubernatorial privileges by using budget and personnel authority during the primary," and raised his voice, saying, "This is a preview of how he would manipulate state affairs if he becomes president and gains personnel authority over tens of thousands of people."
