2 Additional Confirmed Cases at Nonsan Training Center
[Asia Economy Yang Nak-gyu, Military Specialist Reporter] Additional confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) have been reported at the Army Nonsan Training Center.
On the 19th, the Ministry of National Defense announced that 13 trainees tested positive the previous day, and 2 more were confirmed positive on the same day. This infection case comes about a month after a total of 123 confirmed cases were identified at the Nonsan Training Center from the 7th to the 25th of last month.
The unit conducted comprehensive testing on approximately 900 trainees, and except for the 2 confirmed cases, the rest tested negative so far. Testing is currently ongoing for 12 individuals.
In addition, one officer each from the Army and Air Force, and one full-time Army reservist were also confirmed positive. An Army officer in Hongcheon, Gangwon Province, tested positive after a close contact met during leave was confirmed positive. An Air Force officer in Suwon, Gyeonggi Province, developed symptoms while in quarantine due to a family member’s positive diagnosis. An Army full-time reservist in Paju, Gyeonggi Province, was classified as a contact of a confirmed case within the unit and tested positive following diagnostic testing.
