US Lawmaker: "Harm from Giant Platform Monopoly Power... Support for Korean Regulatory Bill"
[Asia Economy Reporter Hyungsoo Park] David Cicilline, Vice Chair of the Antitrust Subcommittee of the U.S. House Judiciary Committee, expressed support for the platform company regulation bill being promoted in Korea.
According to a press release distributed on the 18th by Jo Seung-rae, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, Jo held a video conference the previous day with David Cicilline regarding the regulation direction of in-app payments and big tech companies.
In this meeting, Representative Cicilline stated, "Platform companies cause harm to the economy, workers, and entrepreneurs through monopolistic power," and added, "I support the Korean National Assembly and its members who are pushing forward legislation against the pressure and lobbying of powerful giant platform companies."
Jo introduced Cicilline as a key figure in the U.S. Democratic Party who led the passage of five antitrust bills focused on regulating big tech companies known as 'GAFA' (Google, Apple, Facebook, Amazon) in June.

Jo said, "The tyranny of big tech companies owning platforms is not only a domestic issue but a global problem," and added, "The monopolistic influence of big tech companies is destroying a free and creative digital economy."
