Choo Mi-ae's Side: "Yoon Recruits Democratic Party Figures on Kim Dae-jung's 12th Death Anniversary... Cunning and Petty"
[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Ju-yeon] The campaign team of former Minister of Justice Choo Mi-ae, a presidential candidate from the Democratic Party of Korea, criticized former Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-yeol's recruitment of Democratic Party-affiliated figures as "cunning and petty behavior."
On the 18th, Choo's campaign issued a statement saying, "Yoon's side announced the recruitment of Democratic Party-affiliated figures from Honam as if they had been waiting for today, the 12th anniversary of the late President Kim Dae-jung's passing. This is clearly a challenge to the 'Kim Dae-jung spirit,'" they said.
Choo's team added, "Today is a day to pray for the repose of the late President Kim Dae-jung, who spent his life fighting against the oppressive military dictatorship of political soldiers, risking his life solely for human rights and democracy in this land," and criticized, "Of all days, to line up those who once operated under the great shadow of President Kim Dae-jung beside oneself is truly cunning and petty behavior."
They continued, "Outwardly, it wears the guise of expanding the Honam base, but inwardly, it means to undermine the history and legitimacy of democracy."
They also stated, "We have pointed out that the direct leap to the presidency by political prosecutors following political soldiers is a crisis and threat to our country's democratic order," and "We strongly condemn former Prosecutor General Yoon's shabby behavior." They further criticized, "Moreover, on a day like today, we will not add any comments regarding the former comrades who have entered the arms of political prosecutor Yoon Seok-yeol."
On the same day, former Prosecutor General Yoon's presidential campaign announced the recruitment of 41 people, including former Seoul Gwanak District Mayor Yoo Jong-pil, the longest-serving spokesperson of the Democratic Party. Yoo previously served as the Secretary for Political Affairs at the Blue House during the Kim Dae-jung administration.
