Na Kyung-won Loses to Newstapa Over 'Daughter's Illegal Admission' Report
[Asia Economy Reporter Seongpil Cho] Former lawmaker Na Kyung-won filed a lawsuit against the CEO and reporter of Newstapa, claiming defamation through their articles, but lost in the first trial.
On the 18th, Judge Kang Hwa-seok of the Civil Division 29 at the Seoul Central District Court ruled against former lawmaker Na in the damages claim lawsuit filed against Newstapa CEO Kim Yong-jin and reporter Kim.

Previously, Newstapa reported allegations surrounding former lawmaker Na once each in November and December 2019. The reports concerned suspicions that the Pyeongchang Winter Special Olympics World Games Organizing Committee gave preferential hiring to Na's former secretarial staff when she was chairperson in 2011, and that the Ministry of Education assisted Na's daughter in her school admission. Former lawmaker Na filed the lawsuit in January last year, claiming the articles were false and damaged her reputation, causing her mental distress. The amount claimed in the lawsuit was 30 million KRW.
