Kim Du-kwan's son, who was helping the camp, tests positive for COVID-19... Ruling party's presidential campaign faces emergency (Comprehensive)
[Asia Economy Reporter Jeon Jin-young] The son of Kim Du-kwan, a presidential candidate from the ruling party and member of the Democratic Party of Korea, tested positive for COVID-19 while assisting the presidential campaign. Kim canceled all his schedules and entered self-quarantine.
Kim Du-kwan's campaign stated in a text message sent to reporters on the 18th, “The confirmed case is the son of candidate Kim Du-kwan, who was volunteering in the campaign building when he began to feel symptoms and immediately underwent a COVID-19 test,” adding, “He was subsequently confirmed positive and is currently following the guidelines of the health authorities.”
Kim is scheduled to undergo a COVID-19 test on the same day. He had attended the 4th TV debate of the presidential candidates’ main round hosted by Channel A the previous day, and it was reported that he had a meal with his son before the debate.
Since all Democratic Party presidential candidates attended the TV debate, there is a possibility that the primary schedule could be disrupted depending on Kim’s test results. The presidential candidates canceled their schedules for the day and entered home quarantine.
Former Democratic Party leader Lee Nak-yeon canceled his scheduled visit to the late President Kim Dae-jung’s National Cemetery in the morning and will undergo a COVID-19 test. Lee’s campaign stated, “He is proactively going to get tested for COVID-19 and will follow the health authorities’ guidelines thereafter.” Gyeonggi Province Governor Lee Jae-myung also canceled his visit to the late President Kim’s National Cemetery and will take a COVID-19 test at 10 a.m.
