Qualcomm Unveils World's First Drone Platform Equipped with 5G and AI Technologies
[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] Qualcomm announced on the 18th that it has unveiled the world’s first drone platform and reference design integrating 5G and artificial intelligence (AI) technologies, the ‘Qualcomm Flight RB5 5G Platform.’
Built on Qualcomm’s latest Internet of Things (IoT) products, the Qualcomm Flight RB5 5G Platform is equipped with the Qualcomm QRB5165 processor and provides solutions to realize high-performance, low-power 5G drones.
The Qualcomm Flight RB5 5G Platform supports evolving applications and new use cases across various fields such as film and entertainment, security and emergency response services, delivery, defense, inspection, and mapping by integrating multiple complex technologies into a single, precisely integrated drone system.
Dev Singh, Senior Director of Qualcomm Autonomous Robotics, Drones, and Intelligent Machines, stated, “Qualcomm has continuously collaborated with numerous industry-leading drone companies and has engaged over 200 members of the global robotics and drone ecosystem.”
Qualcomm has completed network testing of the Qualcomm Flight RB5 5G Platform on Verizon’s 5G network in the United States, and the 5G millimeter wave (mmWave) capability will be available through Verizon’s ThingSpace marketplace.
The Qualcomm Flight RB5 5G drone reference design model is currently being showcased on a pilot basis through Modal AI, and the Qualcomm Flight RB5 5G development kit is expected to be available starting in the fourth quarter of this year.
