Samsung Electronics Vice Chairman Lee Jae-yong 'Unpaid'
[Asia Economy Reporter Oh Ju-yeon] In the first half of this year, the corporate owner who received the highest compensation in the business world was Honorary Chairman Chung Mong-koo of Hyundai Motor Group.
According to the Financial Supervisory Service's electronic disclosure system on the 17th, Honorary Chairman Chung Mong-koo received a total of 30.234 billion KRW from Hyundai Mobis, including a salary of 472 million KRW and retirement income of 29.763 billion KRW. Last year, he received a total of 56.749 billion KRW including retirement pay from Hyundai Motor and Hyundai Mobis, making the combined amount for last year and this year approximately 87 billion KRW.
The late Shin Chun-ho, former Chairman of Nongshim, who passed away in March this year, received a total compensation of 21.426 billion KRW, following Honorary Chairman Chung. Chairman Shin received retirement pay of 20.828 billion KRW from Nongshim and Nongshim Holdings.
Among the top five major domestic conglomerate owners, Shin Dong-bin, Chairman of Lotte Group, ranked first in compensation. Chairman Shin received a total of 7.972 billion KRW from seven affiliates including Lotte Holdings in the first half of this year. Following him was Koo Kwang-mo, Chairman of LG Group, with compensation of 6.579 billion KRW.
Park Chan-gu, Chairman of Kumho Petrochemical Group, received 3.87 billion KRW; Lee Jae-hyun, Chairman of CJ Group, received 3.85 billion KRW; Chey Tae-won, Chairman of SK Group, received 3.84 billion KRW; Koo Ja-yeol, Chairman of LS Group, received 3.499 billion KRW; and Chung Eui-sun, Chairman of Hyundai Motor Group, received 3.25 billion KRW. Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong, recently released on parole, continued to receive 'no compensation.'
Kim Seung-yeon, Chairman of Hanwha, who returned to management in March this year, received a total of 3 billion KRW in the first half from three affiliates: Hanwha Corporation, Hanwha Solutions, and Hanwha Construction. Cho Hyun-joon, Chairman of Hyosung, received 2.267 billion KRW; Lee Myung-hee, Chairwoman of Shinsegae, received 2.198 billion KRW; Cho Won-tae, Chairman of Hanjin Group, received a total of 1.715 billion KRW; and Huh Tae-soo, Chairman of GS Group, received 1.63 billion KRW.

In the gaming industry, Kim Taek-jin, CEO of NCSoft, received the highest compensation in the first half with 9.442 billion KRW. In the bio industry, Honorary Chairman Seo Jung-jin of Celltrion received a total of 11.47 billion KRW including retirement pay.
