'Proud Jeju Police' is an event that selects three people each quarter by discovering key criminal arrests, touching public safety cases, and hidden internal workers to spread social trust and a culture of respect for the police.
At the awards ceremony, Officer Oh Gyeongjin of the Traffic Management Division at Dongbu Police Station, Officer Heo Seunghyeok of the Criminal Team 6 at Seobu Police Station, and Officer Kim Pureum of the Jungdong District Unit at Seogwipo Police Station were honored as Proud Jeju Police.
Officer Oh Gyeongjin of the Traffic Management Division at Dongbu Police Station received a report on June 11 around 6 p.m. that A (6), who had suffered a severe head injury while on traffic accident prevention duty, was having difficulty moving to the hospital due to traffic congestion.
Officer Oh quickly moved to the scene and led the vehicle carrying the patient with a traffic patrol car, guiding general vehicles to make way.
He then instructed other officers to open the traffic signals at the intersection in advance, and through swift action, the patient received emergency treatment and returned home safely.
Officer Oh said, "I just did what was naturally expected of a police officer," and added, "I am grateful to the citizens who made way knowing it was an emergency situation."
Officer Heo Seunghyeok of Criminal Team 6 at Seobu Police Station arrested eight suspects involved in face-to-face voice phishing fraud, six teenage robbers involved in conditional and meeting crimes, a dating violence suspect, and a local organized crime gang member.
Officer Heo expressed his intention, saying, "I will continue to be a police officer who works hard on foot to protect the common people and the vulnerable."
Officer Kim Pureum of the Jungdong District Unit at Seogwipo Police Station found a missing child suffering from mutism (a symptom of not speaking in unfamiliar environments) last April.
Through sincere actions, Officer Kim opened the child's tightly closed heart and safely handed the child over to the guardian through conversation.
Additionally, in February, Officer Kim found a missing traveler (15) on the Olle Trail through a foot search and handed them over to their family, contributing to the safety of children and adolescents.
Officer Kim said, "As a rookie police officer, I am still inexperienced and have much to learn," and added, "I will become a warm police officer whom the public can rely on emotionally."
Meanwhile, Chief Kang Hwangsu conveyed at the awards ceremony, "If you work with passion and sincerity with the mindset of being a strong shield for the common people and socially vulnerable, all Jeju police officers deserve to be proud police trusted by the public."
