Two Superior Officers Booked in Connection with Death of Female Navy Sergeant
[Asia Economy Reporter Yoo In-ho] Two superiors in the unit, including a naval non-commissioned officer (sergeant) who was a victim of sexual harassment and died, have been turned into suspects.
The Naval Military Police announced on the 17th that Lieutenant Colonel A and Sergeant B, who belong to the same unit as the victim, have been booked on charges of violating "Article 44 of the Act on the Status and Service of Military Personnel" (confidentiality protection for reporters).
The Navy did not disclose specific details of the charges.
It is known that Lieutenant Colonel A was found to have mentioned the victimization to some unit members during sexual violence prevention training for unit personnel after the victim transferred to another unit at their own request two days after the interview.
Sergeant B was the superior who first received the report from the victim on May 27, the day the sexual harassment occurred, and is accused of making the victim aware that they were the reporter while cautioning the perpetrator after receiving the report.
