Jeju Area COVID-19 Cases Hit Record High for Consecutive Days... 64 Confirmed on 15th
[Jeju=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Chang-won] Jeju Special Self-Governing Province announced on the 16th that a total of 4,392 COVID-19 diagnostic tests were conducted in one day on the 15th, and among them, 64 people (Jeju #2079~2142) tested positive.
Regarding the infection routes of the 64 new confirmed cases, ▲49 were contacts of confirmed cases in the Jeju area ▲4 were contacts of confirmed cases from other regions ▲1 had a history of overseas travel ▲10 were symptomatic COVID-19 patients.
Among them, 2 are residents of other regions, and the remaining 62 are Jeju residents or residents within the province.
Among the contacts of confirmed cases in Jeju, 33 are known to be related to three cluster infection cases.
Among the cluster infection cases, 28 are related to a new cluster infection case tentatively named ‘Jeju-si Academy 2’, 1 to ‘Jeju-si Senior Daycare Center’, and 4 to ‘Jeju-si Acquaintance Gathering 8’.
The quarantine authorities confirmed during the epidemiological investigation that 28 people had contact at an academy located in Jeju-si and classified it as a new cluster infection case. Since the first confirmed case on the 3rd, 4 people tested positive on the 14th, and 28 more tested positive on the 15th.
Among the 28 confirmed cases, 4 are academy instructors, and 24 are middle school students attending classes, reportedly related to six schools within the province.
They were found to have had contact with academy students who tested positive on the 13th and 14th, and as of 11 a.m. on the 16th, the total number of confirmed cases related to the tentatively named ‘Jeju-si Academy 2’ has reached 33.
Meanwhile, excluding the 33 confirmed cases related to cluster infections, 16 contacts of confirmed cases in Jeju are individual cases, presumed to have contracted the virus through contact with prior confirmed cases in everyday settings such as homes and workplaces.
There are 5 confirmed cases due to external factors such as contact with confirmed cases from other regions or overseas travel history, and among the new confirmed cases, 32 are students or staff of 12 elementary, middle, and high schools within the province.
As of 11 a.m. on the 16th, the cumulative number of confirmed cases in Jeju is 2,142.
There are 305 confirmed cases currently in isolation in Jeju, 92 available hospital beds in the province, and 1,786 people in self-quarantine.
