[Asia Economy International Desk Reporter] After the Islamic militant group Taliban entered the capital Kabul, Afghan President Ashraf Ghani reportedly left the country, according to major foreign media on the 15th (local time). Foreign media confirmed Ghani's departure from senior officials of the Afghan Ministry of Interior and Ministry of Foreign Affairs. However, the destination remains unclear.
A senior official from the Ministry of Interior said President Ghani went to Tajikistan, but a Ministry of Foreign Affairs official stated that they do not know which country he went to.
Abdullah Abdullah, the Afghan government's peace negotiation representative, referred to Ghani as the "former" president in a video posted on Facebook. He criticized, "He left the country leaving the people in this situation. God will hold him accountable, and the people will judge him."
AFP reported that Abdullah did not disclose Ghani's destination, but local TOLO News added that the destination was Tajikistan.
The Afghan presidential office refused to confirm or comment on reports of Ghani's departure citing security reasons.
