Gwak Sang-wook, Chairman of the Gyeonggi Province Mayors and Governors Association (Mayor of Osan), said, "Gyeonggi Province not only accepted the proposal for universal payment from the heads of 31 cities and counties but also decided to bear more of the financial burden by changing the resource-sharing ratio for the remaining 12% from 80:20 to 90:10," adding, "We appreciate the consideration of Gyeonggi Province and the Provincial Council."
The universal payment of disaster relief funds became a public issue after the heads of five cities?Goyang, Paju, Guri, Gwangmyeong, and Anseong?proposed it on the 29th of last month.
Subsequently, during the process of gathering opinions from all cities and counties by the Mayors and Governors Association, some metropolitan city leaders expressed, "We agree with universal payment, but the issue of negative local allocation tax must be resolved first," causing some difficulties.
The association drafted a proposal including additional provincial funding for some cities, obtained consent from the heads of 31 cities and counties, and delivered it to Governor Lee Jae-myung on the 6th.
