Beware of Personal Information Theft Posing as the Financial Supervisory Service
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Jin-ho] Financial authorities announced on the 13th that they are issuing a consumer alert due to a surge in reports of voice phishing and scam messages impersonating the Financial Supervisory Service (FSS) to steal personal information.
According to the FSS, more than 71 reports were received within about three hours starting from the afternoon of the previous day. The messages reportedly claim that the recipient's account has been reported to the FSS and urge them to click on a website address. Clicking the address leads to a structure where personal information such as mobile phone numbers is entered and a malicious app is secretly installed on the victim's device.
Subsequently, the scammers use this information to open mobile phone lines in the victim's name or to fraudulently obtain funds through non-face-to-face account openings and loan applications.
