View original image[Asia Economy Reporter Park Cheol-eung] Yoon Geon-young, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, criticized former Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-yeol's allegation of a secret agreement, saying, "It seems like he is showing the essence of third-rate politics in Yeouido." Yoon is a member of the National Assembly's Foreign Affairs and Unification Committee and Intelligence Committee, and previously served as the head of the National Situation Room at the Office of President Moon Jae-in.
On the 12th, Yoon appeared on MBC Radio's 'Kim Jong-bae's Focus' and said, "It's a bit frustrating. You haven't been in politics for long, but you already seem to be showing the essence of third-rate politics in Yeouido," adding, "Claiming a secret agreement without any substance is truly a new form of color politics."
He continued, "The ones who specialized in secret agreements were the People Power Party. It was the People Power Party who went to China to plead for an apology over the Cheonan incident. As you well know, wasn't it the People Power Party that caused the 'Chongpung' and 'Bukpung' incidents?"
He added, "The Moon Jae-in administration handled inter-Korean relations with dignity and transparency, no less than any other government. I find it hard to understand the state of not trusting the South Korean government and instead accepting the words of North Korean officials Kim Yo-jong and Kim Yong-chol to claim a secret agreement."
Regarding Lee Do-hoon, former head of the South Korea Peace Negotiation Office who worked under the Moon administration and later joined Yoon Seok-yeol's campaign, Yoon said, "It's too early to evaluate since he hasn't engaged in specific activities yet, but I can say that even if we employed people with good intentions, the results may not always be good."
On inter-Korean relations, he said, "It's a complex puzzle that requires a long breath to untangle, not something to be swayed by momentary ups and downs," adding, "However, this August presents many crisis factors in inter-Korean relations. It is like the calm before the storm. But the important thing is that after the storm passes, we can face a clearer sky than ever before."
