According to Haenam County on the 11th, no COVID-19 cases had been reported since the 6th of last month, but two residents who visited other regions were confirmed positive on the 9th and 10th, respectively.
In his appeal to the residents, Mayor Myeong said, “It is very regrettable that additional confirmed cases have occurred in Haenam, which had remained a safe zone despite the nationwide 4th wave. As the current period, with the extension of social distancing level 3 for two weeks, is expected to be the biggest turning point, the public and private sectors will establish a close cooperation system to further strengthen quarantine measures.”
He especially appealed, “All of these confirmed cases were infections caused by contact with confirmed patients during visits to other regions. Please refrain from visiting other regions, minimize contact with children, relatives, and others living in other regions, and strictly follow quarantine rules such as banning private gatherings of five or more people even within families.”
Mayor Myeong emphasized, “As seen in this infection, the number of visitors from other regions to Haenam is increasing during the vacation season, and contact with residents of other regions through family gatherings is increasing, leading to infections within the region. It is time to abandon even momentary negligence and tighten the reins of thorough quarantine once again.”
He also urged, “Although the first vaccination rate among residents has surpassed 60%, breakthrough infections caused by variant viruses are rapidly increasing. Therefore, even those who have completed vaccination should wear masks both indoors and outdoors.”
Haenam County is currently identifying the movements of the confirmed patients, classifying contacts, and collecting specimens from visitors within the movement paths. Disinfection measures have been completed at homes and visited locations, and the movements of confirmed patients are being announced through disaster safety messages and the official website. Residents whose paths overlap with confirmed cases can receive diagnostic tests regardless of symptoms.
Mayor Myeong Hyun-gwan said, “We are mobilizing all administrative power to ensure the safety of residents and prevent local spread, and we ask all residents to do their best in personal quarantine.”
