[AKyeong Poll] Hypothetical Binary Matchup 'Lee Jae-myung 44% VS Choi Jae-hyung 36.4%'
[Asia Economy Reporter Kum Bo-ryeong] In a hypothetical matchup between Gyeonggi Province Governor Lee Jae-myung and former Board of Audit and Inspection Chairman Choi Jae-hyung, Governor Lee received 7.6 percentage points higher support than former Chairman Choi.
When asked, "If the next presidential election were a contest between Gyeonggi Province Governor Lee Jae-myung and former Board of Audit and Inspection Chairman Choi Jae-hyung, whom would you support?" 44% responded that they support Governor Lee, while 36.4% supported former Chairman Choi. Governor Lee showed a lead with a 7.6 percentage point gap, which is outside the margin of error. "Other candidates" accounted for 8.6%, "None" 8.4%, and "Don't know" 2.5%.
Compared to the previous survey (conducted on the 10th?11th of last month), Governor Lee's support increased by 1.4 percentage points, and former Chairman Choi's support rose by 0.3 percentage points.
Governor Lee received greater support from those in their 40s and 50s, while former Chairman Choi was more favored by those in their 20s and 60s and above. Specifically, 40s (63.9%) and 50s (51.2%) favored Governor Lee. Conversely, those in their 60s (51.3%), 70 and older (41.6%), and 18?29 years old (34.2%) evaluated former Chairman Choi more positively.
By region, Governor Lee received relatively high support in Gyeonggi·Incheon (48%) and Gwangju·Jeolla (60.1%), while former Chairman Choi had stronger backing in Seoul (41.1%) and Daegu·Gyeongbuk (55.3%).
Among supporters of the Democratic Party of Korea, 70.2% supported Governor Lee, whereas 75.9% of People Power Party supporters backed former Chairman Choi.

This survey was conducted by Asia Economy through Win-G Korea Consulting, targeting voters aged 18 and older nationwide on the 7th?8th of this month, with 1,006 respondents and an overall response rate of 7.0%. The survey method was wireless ARS using 100% mobile phone virtual numbers. The sample was extracted using cell weighting based on gender, age, and region according to the resident registration population data from the Ministry of the Interior and Safety as of the end of January 2021. The sampling error is ±3.1 percentage points at a 95% confidence level.
