Sewol Ferry Special Prosecutor Ends Activities Today... Announces Investigation Results on 'Evidence Tampering Allegations'
[Asia Economy Reporter Seongpil Cho] The special prosecutor team led by Lee Hyun-joo, which investigated allegations of evidence tampering in the Sewol ferry disaster, will conclude its three-month investigation and release the results on the 10th.
The special prosecutor will announce the investigation results at 3 p.m. at the Seoul Bar Association. Since its launch on May 13, the team has investigated ▲ allegations of manipulation of Sewol ferry closed-circuit television (CCTV) data ▲ suspicions regarding the Navy and Coast Guard's process of collecting the Sewol DVR (CCTV storage device) ▲ and the appropriateness of the Blue House and government’s response related to the DVR.

During the investigation, the special prosecutor conducted searches and seizures at the Navy, Coast Guard, Supreme Prosecutors' Office, Presidential Archives, and Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries to secure relevant materials. They also carried out forensic examinations of the original DVR hard disks and videos of the DVR collection process through the National Forensic Service (NFS). Additionally, officials from the 4·16 Sewol Ferry Disaster Special Investigation Commission, the Hull Investigation Committee, the Coast Guard, and the 4·16 Records Group were summoned to verify whether evidence tampering occurred.
