On the 6th at 11 a.m., Changwon City held a press conference at Changwon City Hall to explain the current status of the novel coronavirus infection (COVID-19) outbreak and the cluster infection situation at the Namchangwon Nonghyup Distribution Center.
Mayor Heo Seong-mu said, "I apologize for the great inconvenience caused to citizens due to Changwon City's inadequate response."
Earlier, on the 4th, the city conducted COVID-19 diagnostic tests on about 16,000 people at temporary screening clinics located at Yongji Culture Park, Gaeumjeong Park, Changwon Meeting Square, Masan Station Square, and three public health centers. Among them, 10,664 were related to the Namchangwon Nonghyup Distribution Center.
However, many citizens gathered all at once, resulting in long lines under the scorching heat, and discomfort, lack of social distancing, and insufficient guidance led to criticism from citizens.
Regarding this, Mayor Heo bowed his head and said, "I deeply regret the shortcomings in preparing and operating the temporary screening clinics during this urgent situation."
