Gwangju Seo-gu to Operate 'Non-Face-to-Face Walking Festival' Starting from the 23rd

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Shin Dong-ho] Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City (Mayor Seo Dae-seok) announced on the 6th that it will operate a non-face-to-face walking event, "I am the Walking King of Our Dong (Neighborhood)," selecting walking champions for each of the 18 neighborhoods in the district from the 23rd of this month to the 10th of next month.

Walking is an exercise that anyone, regardless of age or gender, with decreased physical activity can easily practice, and it has excellent health promotion effects.

Since last year, Seo-gu has conducted various non-face-to-face walking programs such as "Walking Alone," "Daily Step Counter," "Oh! 50,000 Steps Walking," and "Health Million Steps, Hope Million Times" in response to the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic.

Recently, the non-face-to-face walking challenge, which allows individuals to walk without group sports events and submit certification emails via smartphones, has received great responses from residents.

"I am the Walking King of Our Dong (Neighborhood)" is also conducted in a non-face-to-face manner, and participants capture the screen showing their step count and send it via email, which is the same method.

Seo-gu plans to select a total of 270 outstanding participants, five from each neighborhood, three times based on the highest cumulative step counts, and provide mobile gift certificates worth about 10,000 KRW.

This challenge will be held in three rounds (1st round: 23rd?27th of this month, 2nd round: 30th of this month?3rd of next month, 3rd round: 6th?10th of next month), and participants can submit certification photos via email on the weekend after each round ends.

A Seo-gu official said, "We hope that through this challenge, many citizens will participate in spreading walking and that Seo-gu will become a 'model walking city' where everyone practices walking."
