Jeong Eui-yong Introduces Restoration of Communication Hotline at EAS Foreign Ministers' Meeting... Requests North Korea's Support for Dialogue
[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] On the 4th, Minister of Foreign Affairs Chung Eui-yong introduced the restoration of the inter-Korean communication line and requested support for the resumption of dialogue with North Korea at the East Asia Summit (EAS) Foreign Ministers' Meeting held via video conference.
According to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the 5th, Minister Chung attended the EAS meeting and expressed his determination to work towards resuming dialogue with North Korea based on close cooperation with the United States and others, requesting support. The participating countries agreed on the necessity of dialogue to achieve denuclearization and lasting peace.
Minister Chung also emphasized that maintaining peace and stability in the South China Sea is an important issue for all countries, stressing respect for international law including the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), and that freedom of navigation and overflight must be guaranteed.
