Live Broadcast of Ansan's Tokyo Olympic Women's Archery Triple Crown Moment, Also Aired in China
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Hyung-min] The scene of An San, the pillar of South Korean women's archery, becoming the first-ever triple Olympic archery champion was broadcast live in China as well.
China's state-run broadcaster China Central Television (CCTV) sports channel (CCTV-5) aired the Tokyo Olympic women's archery individual final between An San and Yelena Osipova (Russian Olympic Committee) live from start to finish on the afternoon of the 30th at the Yumenoshima Park Archery Field in Tokyo, Japan.
Since the start of the games, CCTV had mainly scheduled broadcasts focusing on Chinese athletes' matches, so airing this final live was a rare occurrence, even considering that there were no other matches involving Chinese athletes at the time.
Chinese archers were eliminated in the quarterfinals and did not reach the medal positions in this event.
China's state-run Xinhua News Agency sent out a "breaking news" alert immediately after An San secured the gold medal in the shoot-off, and the portal site Sohu Sports reported, "In the final shot, An San scored 10 points while the Russian athlete scored 8 points. In the end, An San won the match with strong mental resilience and took the gold medal."
