Jangseong-gun, Old Warehouse Reborn as Yellow Market
[Jangseong=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Jo Hangyu] An old warehouse in the town center of Jangseong-gun, Jeollanam-do, is being reborn as the "Yellow Market," filled with the fragrant aroma of tea.
According to the county on the 29th, the Yellow Market will be located in a red brick building near the Jangseong-eup public bus terminal, where the shape of the windows and the masonry method reveal the unique charm of an old architectural structure.
The building was constructed in 1965 and has a ground floor area of 215㎡. It once operated as the largest rice milling factory in Jangseong, but after the factory closed, it was left abandoned until now.
The county decided not to demolish the building, considering its good condition and high potential for development into new local content, and the surrounding environment of the building is also favorable.
It serves as the gateway to the Gwangju?Jangseong-eup town center, and recently, a public parking lot was completed, so there is no concern about parking difficulties.
Earlier this year, the county selected (Yu) Shinbipamseu as the final operator through an open recruitment process.
The Yellow Market plans to sell fermented tea made from local agricultural products, and a media art gallery will be created in one corner of the indoor space to provide various attractions.
The county is currently conducting remodeling work following detailed design, and once completed, the townscape is expected to be significantly brightened.
The official opening is scheduled for this fall when the remodeling is completed.
Governor Yoo Doo-seok said, "The years the building has kept are a small history in themselves," adding, "We will preserve it and recreate it with new content to revitalize the local economy."
