Oh Jin-hyek had previously won a gold medal in the men's team event alongside Kim Woo-jin (Cheongju City Hall) and Kim Je-deok (Gyeongbuk Ilgo), and aimed for a double crown in the individual event, but failed. He also missed out on winning his second individual gold medal following the 2012 London Olympics.
