Former Hamyang County Office Executive Jailed for Attempting to Sexually Assault Drunken Female Employee at Karaoke Room
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters, Reporter Lee Sang-hyun] A senior public official who attempted to sexually assault a female employee during a company dinner has been sentenced to prison.
On the 23rd, the 1st Criminal Division of the Geochang Branch of Changwon District Court in Gyeongnam (Presiding Judge Shin Jong-hwan) sentenced A (Grade 5), a senior public official at Hamyang County Office, to 2 years and 6 months in prison for attempted quasi-rape of a subordinate female employee and ordered his immediate detention in court. Additionally, he was ordered to complete 40 hours of a sexual violence treatment program.
A was accused of attempting to sexually assault a female employee during a company dinner with 3 to 4 staff members at a karaoke room in the county on May 26 last year, and has been on trial since the complaint was filed. The prosecution requested an arrest warrant for A on charges of attempted rape in June last year, but it was dismissed.
The court stated, "The victim has suffered significant psychological pain, refuses all settlements, and strongly demands severe punishment, making strict sentencing unavoidable," and added, "Due to the risk of flight, detention in court is ordered."
