Woori Financial Group Expands 'Eusseuk (ESG) Campaign' Implementation
Office Leak Energy Saving and Recycling Challenge Launched
[Asia Economy Reporter Jin-ho Kim] Woori Financial Group announced on the 22nd that it will expand the ‘Start with Me, Together We Shine (ESG) Campaign’ in the second half of the year, following the first half, to strengthen ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) management and spread an ESG corporate culture.
Key activities in the first half included ▲a pledge for all group employees to participate in ‘ESG Management Principles’ ▲a family walking donation campaign ▲a blood donation campaign ▲an environmental protection campaign, among others.
In the second half, the group will carry out ▲an office leak and energy-saving campaign ▲a Start with Me Recycling Challenge campaign, which involves completely turning off all shared and personal office devices before leaving work every day, removing personal trash bins in the head office offices, and operating shared recycling bins on each floor.
Additionally, the group plans to continue supporting the creation of school forests by identifying green-deprived areas in urban centers so that students and local residents can receive education in a pleasant environment and enjoy comfortable rest.
Once the COVID-19 spread subsides, the group also plans to operate a ‘low-carbon diet’ in the head office cafeteria and promote a non-face-to-face walking donation campaign called the ‘Plogging Challenge.’
The ‘low-carbon diet’ consists of plant-based meals such as soy meat, vegetables, and fruits, which can reduce carbon emissions by 80% compared to animal-based diets while promoting health and environmental benefits. The ‘Plogging Challenge’ uses the mobile app ‘BigWalk’ to match donations based on employees’ step counts, supporting eco-friendly energy projects in rural fishing and farming communities.
