Samsung Strengthens India Strategy... 'Lowest Price 5G' Galaxy A22 5G Launches Tomorrow
[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] Samsung Electronics is launching the most affordable ‘Galaxy A’ series 5G smartphone in India. Recently, Samsung Electronics has been strengthening its mid-range lineup and accelerating its efforts to capture the Indian market, the world's second-largest smartphone market.
According to Samsung Electronics India on the 21st (local time), Samsung will release the ‘Galaxy A22 5G’ in India on the 23rd (local time).
The Galaxy A22 5G, introduced in India this time, is expected to be the cheapest Galaxy A series 5G smartphone, starting at a launch price of 19,999 rupees (approximately 310,000 KRW). Unlike typical Android smartphones that offer two 5G bands, the Galaxy A22 5G features 11 5G bands.
The Galaxy A22 5G is equipped with a 6.6-inch TFT LCD display with Full HD+ resolution and a 90Hz refresh rate. The application processor (AP) is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 700 chipset and runs on Android 11. It also comes with 4GB, 6GB, and 8GB RAM options, 64GB and 128GB storage capacities, a microSD card slot, and is powered by a 5000mAh battery supporting up to 15W fast charging.
The camera setup includes an 8-megapixel selfie camera capable of 1080p video recording on the front, and a triple rear camera system consisting of a 48-megapixel wide-angle, 5-megapixel ultra-wide, and 2-megapixel depth sensor. The 48-megapixel main camera features an F1.8 aperture. Additionally, the Galaxy A22 5G offers dual SIM card slots, 5G, 4G LTE, GPS, Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, USB 2.0 Type-C port, and a 3.5mm headphone jack.
Recently, Samsung Electronics has been continuously launching new products locally, recognizing the growth potential of India, the world's second-largest smartphone market. Samsung is diversifying its product lineup with the release of the Galaxy A32, A52, A72 series, and the Galaxy M12, and is also expanding sales channels by selling the Galaxy F series, previously available only online, through offline stores.
According to global market research firm Counterpoint Research, India's smartphone shipments in the first quarter of this year reached 38 million units, a 23% increase compared to the same period last year. This marks the highest first-quarter shipment volume in the Indian market, attributed to new product launch promotions and pent-up consumer demand since last year.
As the market continues to grow, competition among smartphone manufacturers targeting the Indian market is intensifying. By company, Xiaomi from China leads with a 26% market share in the first quarter of this year. Notably, Xiaomi's ‘Redmi 9’ series received a positive response, with shipments increasing by 4% year-on-year.
